Botswana History
Southern Africa and Botswana has been inhabited by the San tribe (hunter-gatherer people) for a minimum of 10,000 years, followed by the Tswana. Half the native population today is ethic Tswana. About 2,000 years ago Bantu speaking people came into the region. The 1800s were characterised by the destruction of peace first by Zulus and then by the Boers (Dutch farmers). After appeals by the Botswana Chief Khama III for assistance, Britain established the area as a protectorate then known as Bechuanaland.

In 1961 Britain acknowledged a constitution to the country and in 1966 the country became independent which makes Botswana the oldest democracy in Africa.
