On this 22-day tour you will be shown the highlights of Southern Africa in a 4.5 tonne overland vehicle. Extra time is allowed at each location so you can take it all in; enjoy the wildlife, the lush vegetation, the scenery, the sheer space and the freedom of the oldest desert in the world.

The journey will start in Cape Town and will take you all the way to Zambia's Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a breathtaking experience with plenty of adrenaline activities to choose from. On the way to this spectacular site you will visit the highlights of four countries.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cape Town to Trawal
Hafeni Brothers will meet you in Cape Town, one of the most charismatic cities in Africa. This city gives you a great introduction to Africa's modern lifestyle. Cape Town is famous for its unique flora and fauna and has been classed as one of Earth's biologically richest and most endangered terrestrial eco-regions. The city is also famous for Table Mountain, which overlooks the city, the Cape and the surrounding mountains, presenting you with one of the most epic views in Africa. And last but not least is Cape Town famous for its huge amount of long sandy beaches.


You will be picked up at 9am for a Township Tour. On this tour through the township, you will see four different housing and sociol economic areas. Following the Township Tour we meet at Bloubergstrand around 11am, one of Cape Town's most beautiful beaches.

We then start our first drive, 300km/4 hrs, with a lunch break on the road heading north to Trawal. After arrival at our first campsite we get to know our truck, tents and equipment.

Day 2: Trawal to Orange River
After breakfast and pack up, 9am we drive 420km/6 hrs, including a lunch stop and a stop in Springbok to stock up on supplies. That night we camp near the border of South Africa and Namibia on The Orange River where you can reflect on your first impressions of Africa looking at the beautiful scenery surrounding the Orange River.

Day 3: Orange River to Fish River Canyon
After breakfast you have the option to do some canoeing on the Orange River. We depart after lunch heading to the Namibian border. After border clearance we travel 180km/3hrs to Hobas, our campsite near Fish River Canyon. On dusk we visit the second largest canyon in the world for sunset and an amazing photo opportunity. Afterwards we return to camp, prepare dinner and sit around the campfire.

Day 4: Fish River Canyon to Helmeringhausen
After breakfast around 9am we depart and drive 300km/4hrs before arriving at the campsite were we have lunch. 

Day 5: Helmeringhausen to Sesriem
10am After breakfast and pack up we drive 250km (approx. 4 hrs, with lunch break on the road). We arrive in Sesriem in the afternoon to put up camp.

Day 6: Sesriem to Swakopmund
Early start, with a 20min drive to see the famous Dune 45 at sunrise. After breakfast at this amazing site, we go on a desert walk with a local guide discovering all the wonders and hidden lives of the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world. We then return to camp, pack up and have lunch before we drive 350km (approx. 5 hrs) to Swakopmund, where we spend the next two days sight-seeing.

Day 7: Swakopmund
We start the day in Swakopmund, Namibia?s biggest coastal town. You will see beautiful German colonial buildings at the edge of the Namib Desert, which gives the town a very unique feel.

Around 10am  we go on a tour through Mondesa, Swakopmund?s Township to experience the local culture and enjoy traditional food in the township?s restaurant.

Following lunch you have option to enjoy some of the adrenaline activities that Swakopmund has to offer: sand boarding, quad biking and skydiving. Swakopmund is also famous for its fishing. Optional fishing tours will be available from boat or shore.

Day 8: Swakopmund
Enjoy more of what Swakopmund has to offer. Visit the museum which explores a lot of Namibia?s history and ethnology, the National Marine Aquarium, the Crystal Gallery, handicraft markets or just stroll around town and enjoy the flair or partake in more of Swakopmund?s breathtaking adrenaline activities.

Day 9: Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe
8am We drive 250km (approx. 3hrs). We first travel north to visit the seal colony at Cape Cross before heading east to Spitzkoppe camp where we have lunch and spend the rest of the day exploring. You have the opportunity to see a number of excellent samples of rock art believed to be about 6,000 years old. Spitzkoppe (German: pointed dome) is a group of bold granite peaks. The peaks stand out dramatically from the flat surroundings and offer a great photo opportunity, especially at sunset and sunrise. Whilst this is spectacular, wait til you see the night skies. Due to the low population and low light
pollution, Namibia offers the best conditions to explore the night sky of the Southern
Hemisphere. You will be truly amazed!

Day 10: Spitzkoppe to Kamanjab
9am We drive 200km (approx. 4 hrs, with lunch break on the road) to Kamanjab. After setting up camp we visit the Himba village. The Himbas are an ancient tribe and closely related to the Herero tribe. The women wear unique hairstyles and are famous for using a mix of butter and ochre to protect their skins from the harsh climate of the desert.

Day 11: Kamanjab to Okaukuejo (Etosha)
9am We drive 280km (approx. 3.5 hrs). We arrive in Etosha at Okaukuejo campsite for lunch. This afternoon we experience our first game drive. The Etosha National Park is dominated by the Etosha saltpan and home to more than 100 different species of mammals including the black rhino, elephants, lions, leopards, impalas and many more. It will be a 2hrs game drive to ease you in and prepare you for the following day. The next two evenings we can enjoy camping next to a waterhole where wild animals gather for water and provide great photo opportunities.

Day 12: Etosha
We get up at sunrise to go on an all-day game drive.

Day 13: Okaukuejo (Etosha) to Otjiwarongo
8am We drive 250km (approx. 3 hrs) and arrive at a Cheetah Conservation Park around lunch time. Here you get the opportunity to learn about the world?s fastest mammal and what the centre does to save it for future generations. You get to view cheetahs in their natural habitat, see the resident cheetahs dine and have the chance of an up close and personal experience with some of the centre?s cheetahs. Following this fascinating experience we travel half an hour to our campsite.

Day 14: Otjiwarongo to Windhoek
10am We drive 250km (approx. 2 hrs) south. We stop at Okahandja for lunch. Here you can look at and purchase woodcarvings and souvenirs. After lunch we travel another hour into Windhoek where Nama, Herero, German, Afrikaans, and British cultures have influenced the growth and development. In the afternoon you can explore Namibia?s biggest and most modern city. At night it is optional to meet us at the unique beer garden ?Joe?s Beer House? for dinner and socializing.

Day 15: Windhoek to Ghanzi
8am We drive 350km towards the border of Namibia and Botswana where we have lunch and then travel another 3hrs to Ghanzi, our first bush camp in Botswana. In the afternoon we go on a bush walk with the Khoe-San tribe (Bushmen) who are believed to be the ancestral population from which all humans descended. Geneticists say that the oldest gene pattern amongst modern humans is that of the Khoe-San. It dates back to about 150,000 years. They are hunters and gatherers and give you an insight into their traditional lifestyle.

Day 16: Ghanzi to Maun
9am We drive 300km (approx. 4 hrs), arriving at our campsite at lunchtime. Here we have an optional scenic flight available over the beautiful wilderness of the Okavango Delta, the world?s biggest inland delta. The Okavango Delta is home to some of the world?s most endangered species of large mammal, such as the cheetah, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, African wild dog, lion and many more. The campsite has a nice pool and bar area where you can relax under the African sun.

Day 17: Delta
9am We head off for an overnight stay in the Okavango Delta to take a closer look at its? magnificent wildlife, labyrinth of lagoons, lakes and channels. We take traditional Mokoros (thin long wooden boats steered by a local poler) to go on our game cruise. We spend the night in a bush camp in the heart of the Delta under the African sky.

Day 18: Maun
We return to our campsite in Maun from the amazing Delta around lunchtime, filled with great impressions to relax around the pool or visit the nearby crocodile farm (optional).

Day 19: Maun to Gweta
10am We drive 250km with lunch on the road) and arrive at Gweta camp shortly after lunch. We stop here to break up a huge drive from Maun to Kansane. You have the afternoon to venture around the area and relax by the pool next to a beautiful Baobab tree.

Day 20: Gweta to Kasane
9am We drive 270km arriving at our campsite for lunch. The campsite is situated directly at the Chobe River in Chobe National Park. The Chobe River is famous for its huge amounts of elephants, hippos, buffalos and magnificent birdlife. In the afternoon we go on a Wildlife River Cruise to enjoy the scenery, the wildlife and plenty of photo opportunities, especially at sunset.

Day 21: Kansane to Livingston
9am We drive a short distance to the border of Botswana and Zambia. After crossing the border we travel to Livingston, arriving at our campsite for lunch. Livingstone is the tourism centre of the Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, a Unesco World Heritage site and furthermore a breathtaking experience with plenty of adrenaline activities to choose from. The local name is Mosi au Tunya, which means ?smoke that thunders? and you soon find out that this name gives it justice. In the afternoon we give you an activity briefing so you can make up your mind and pick from the large amount of optional adventures.

Day 22:
This is our last day and we celebrate together on a river cruise (optional). A boat ride on the Zambezi River to enjoy more wildlife, reflect on the last 22 days of life-changing experiences and impressions and enjoy the all-you-can-eat and drink cruise.
