Itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek to Mount Brukkaros
We leave Windhoek at 9am, traveling 3hrs. before our first lunch break on the road. We
then continue another 3hrs. after lunch (total 450km; 6hrs.). After arrival at our first
campsite we get to know our vehicle, tents and equipment. The afternoon you can spend
exploring around the campsite and see vast plains, distant horizons, glorious sunsets, sit
around the campfire and see a magical starlit sky.
Day 2: Mount Brukkaros to Fishriver Canyon
We depart at 10am, traveling 270km approx. 4 hrs. with a lunch stop on the road. After
arrival at Hobas, our campsite near Fish River Canyon we set up camp. On dusk we visit
the second largest canyon in the world for sunset and an amazing photo opportunity.
Afterwards we return to camp, prepare dinner and sit around the campfire.
Day 3: Fish River Canyon to Helmeringhausen
After breakfast we depart at 9am to drive 300km, which takes us approx. 4 hrs. After
arrival at the campsite we have lunch and the option for a horse ride to explore the
magnificent landscape and fauna and flora around Tiras Mountains.
Day 4: Helmeringhausen to Sesriem
After breakfast and pack up, we depart at 10am starting our 250km drive, which takes us
approx. 4 hrs. The lunch break is on the road, and we arrive in Sesriem in the afternoon to
put up camp.
Day 5: Sesriem to Swakopmund
In the early morning, just before sunrise we get out of bed to drive 20min and see the
famous Dune 45 for sunrise. After breakfast at the amazing site of Dune 45 we go on a
desert walk with a local guide discovering all the wonders and hidden lives of the Namib
Desert, the oldest desert in the world. We then return to camp, pack up and have lunch
before we go on a 350 km drive, which takes us approx. 5 hrs. to Swakopmund where we
spend the next two day sight-seeing.
Day 6: Swakopmund
On this day you wake up in Swakopmund, Namibias biggest coastal town. You see
beautiful German colonial buildings at the edge of the Namib Desert, which gives the
town a very unique feel. Around 10 o clock we go on a tour through Mondesa,
Swakopmunds Township to experience the local culture and have some traditional food
in the townships restaurant. After that you have option of enjoying some adrenaline
activities that Swakopmund has to offer like: sand boarding; quad biking; and skydiving.
Swakopmund is also famous for its fishing. Optional fishing tours will be available from
boat or shore.
Day 7: Swakopmund
Day 8 is a further day to enjoy Swakopmund. You could visit the museum, which
explores a lot of Namibias history and ethnology, the National Marine Aquarium, the
Crystal Gallery, handicraft markets or just stroll around town and enjoy the flair or
partake in more of Swakopmunds breathtaking adrenaline activities.
Day 8: Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe
We leave Swakopmund at 8am driving 250km, which approx. takes us 3hrs. We first
travel north to visit the seal colony at Cape Cross before heading east to Spitzkoppe camp
where we have lunch and spend the rest of the day looking around. You have the
opportunity to see a number of excellent samples of rock art believed to be about 6000
years old. Spitzkoppe (German: pointed dome) is a group of bold granite peaks. The
peaks stand out dramatically from the flat surroundings and offer a great photo
opportunity especially at sunset and sunrise. But when you see the night skies you will be
truly amazed.
Due to the low population and low light pollution, Namibia offers the best conditions to
explore the night sky of the Southern Hemisphere.
Day 9: Spitzkoppe to Petrified Forest
We depart from Spitzkoppe at 9am driving 300km in approx. 5hrs. We drive 4 hrs. and
stop for lunch at the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, Namibias first World Heritage
Site. After lunch we drive another hour to our campsite at the Petrified Forest. This veld
area is scattered with fossilised tree trunks. These trees were washed down a river 280
million years ago.
Over a period of millions of years even the finest structures of the
wood have been dissolved by silicic acid and replaced by quartz.
Day 10: Petrified Forest to Khowarib
At 8am we leave the Petrified Forest behind, driving 220km (approx. 4hrs.) to our
campsite in Khowarib where we have lunch and spend the afternoon at the beautiful
waterfalls near by. The spectacular Kunene Region is the perfect place to relax, take short
walks, photograph landscapes, enjoy a wide variety of flora and fauna, and soak up the
atmosphere of rural Namibia.
Day 11: Khowarib to Opuwo
In the morning we go on a short game drive around the Hoanib River to spot some desert
elephants. We leave at 11 o clock, have lunch on the road and get to Opuwo after a
approx. 3hrs. drive. After setting up camp we visit a traditional Himba village. The Himbas are an ancient tribe and closely related to the Herero tribe. The women wear
unique hairstyles and are famous for using a mix of butter and ochre to protect their skins
from the harsh climate of the desert.
Day 12: Opuwo to Ombalantu
We depart from Opuwo at 9am for a 220km approx. a 4hrs. drive, with a lunch break on
the road. After setting up camp at Ombalantu (also called Outapi or Uutapi) beneath the
Angola border, we spend the afternoon visiting the project Trees for Namibia run by the
NGO Humana where you have the opportunity to plant your own Marula tree and help
the country fight deforestation. After that we will be visiting the famous Ombalantu
Baobab Tree at our campsite. It played a significant role in local history. The hollow
trunk has been used as a hideout, a post office and a chapel, and was integrated into the
South African military base prior to independence.
Day 13: Ombalantu to Namutoni (Etosha)
At 8am we depart Ombalantu and drive 350km (approx. 5hrs.) We reach Etosha National
Park for lunch. After setting up camp we spend the afternoon on a game drive. The
Etosha National Park is dominated by the Etosha saltpan and is home to more then 100
different species of mammals including the black rhino, elephants, lions, leopards,
impalas and many more.
Day 14 Namutoni (Etosha) to Okaukuejo (Etosha)
We depart early and game drive 180 km along the southern edge of the Etosha pan before
retiring at Okaukuejo in the evening, a campsite next to a waterhole, which often presents
amazing photo opportunities.
Day 15: Okaukuejo (Etosha) to Otjiwarongo
We leave Okaukuejo at 8am to drive 250km, which takes us approx. 3 hrs. We then
arrive at a cheetah conservation park around lunchtime. Here you get the opportunity to
learn about the worlds fastest mammal and what the centre does to save it for future
generations. You get too view cheetahs in their natural habitat, see the resident cheetahs
dine and have the chance of an up close personal experience with some of the centres
cheetahs. Afterwards this fascinating experience we travel half an hour to our campsite.
Day 16: Otjiwarongo to Windhoek
This is the last day of our tour. We leave Otjiwarongo at 10am driving 250km (approx. 2
hrs.) south. We stop at Okahandja for lunch. Here you can see and purchase
woodcarvings and souvenirs. After lunch we travel another hour into Windhoek where
Nama, Herero, German, Afrikaans, and British cultures have influenced the growth and
development. In the afternoon you can explore Namibias biggest and most modern city.
At night you can optionally meet us at the unique beer garden Joes Beer House for
dinner, socializing and celebrate our shared experience. |
